do you have goalsI’m taking part in Misha and Beth’s Five Year Project and my five-year goal is to write a novel and get it published. This is my update on progress this month. (I was tempted to write ‘lack of progress’, but that would be defeatist!)

5 Year Writing Goal: November update

do you have goalsI’m taking part in Misha and Beth’s Five Year Project and my five-year goal is to write a novel and get it published. This is my update on progress this month.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Absolutely NOTHING at all.

I hang my head in shame, but my excuse is that I’ve been concentrating on NaNoWriMo and on my Birkbeck assignments. So I’ve been doing plenty of writing, but nothing that is focused on my goal.

Feedback on The Reluctant Scribe

A few months ago I sent my novel off for review by an adult historical fiction author and editor. Her comments were very positive and she provided me with a number of useful suggestions to consider.

What have I done with my novel since then?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Absolutely NOTHING at all.

Early Morning Writing

A Birkbeck writing tutor recommended Dorothea Brande’s excellent book, Becoming a Writer. I found Dorothea’s exercise of early morning writing incredibly useful. It really freed up my writing ‘muscles’ and allowed me to work more productively.

More recently, the writing guru, Julia Cameron, advocated a similar practice, which she calls morning pages. When I found a copy of Julia’s book The Artist’s Way in my local Oxfam shop, I couldn’t resist buying it. Continue reading “Stamping on the Monsters”
