Getting back to nature…
My piece on my long-distance walking expedition is printed in a special edition of Countryfile Magazine, the mag that accompanies the BBC’s successful TV series.
This issue is dedicated to the theme ‘Back to Nature’ and the article is their headline feature in the Natural Adventures section. Accompanying the prose are some photos that feature the stunning scenery of Anglesey, and a very windswept author! Continue reading “Countryfile Magazine: Natural Adventures”
Last summer I had three poems selected for publication in a poetry journal.
It always comes as a shock when people like my poems, because I don’t consider myself a poet. And I think writing poems is – for me, anyway – a self-indulgent exercise.
The anthology is packed full of wonderful poetry, and is available for downloading as a PDF file. It’s free of charge! 45 Square 2015
And you can listen to a couple of my poems here.
Acorns Falling and Final Track.
Further information, including recordings of other poems, is available on the 45 Square website.
After several posts in which I describe my stressful – and fruitless – search for an agent, it gives me great pleasure to celebrate a small success with you.
Last month I was lucky enough to have a short story published in 44 Square, the annual journal of new fiction, published by Birkbeck, University of London.
You can read my story, along with all the other included pieces, by downloading a PDF of the anthology. It’s free!
The journal features some excellent work from a bunch of talented writers, and I feel honoured that my short story, Letter to Oliver, was selected for publication. This is the second time I’ve had a short story selected for the 44 Square journal. Once was wonderful, but to be accepted twice represents a huge achievement for me.
(I also had some poetry accepted in another journal, but I’ll tell you all about that in another post.)
Two little successes this week.
You must forgive me for some moderate boasting, but it seems I have been trudging through a writing desert recently. When I come across the occasional waterhole, please don’t blame me for wanting to linger in its shade and enjoy the view.
This week I had both a letter published and, much more importantly, a short story chosen to appear on a website.
1. A letter published
I had a letter published in Writing Magazine. Yes, it is only a letter, but it is my letter, written by me, and something the editor thinks other people might enjoy reading. Continue reading “Writing Successes: celebration”
Short Story Anthology
One of my short stories is published in a literary anthology, 44 Square Fiction, published by Birkbeck. The contributors are listed on their website, including a very nice set of caricatures of all of us.
