Oh my goodness, gracious me. I swear I had forgotten all about it. Then I came home from holiday and found this email waiting for me.
Dear Ruth
Congratulations! Your application to become a BT Storyteller for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been successful. You have been chosen to help us tell the story of the greatest show on earth. This is a unique opportunity to get involved in London 2012 and join others from all over the UK in celebrating the Games.
Joining you as a BT Storyteller will be a host of athletes, celebrities and people who are passionate about the London 2012 Games.
Over the next year, you will have the opportunity to contribute and participate in the story of the build-up to the Games and may also find yourself attending exclusive events or even rubbing shoulders with celebrities and athletes.
Well, how exciting is this? Now what do I do? There is a website but it is not live yet (although my face morphs onto the page from time to time, before fading mercifully away to be replaced by someone else’s).
So I wait. And wonder what sort of pickle I have got myself into.
Hi Ruth, indeed, how exciting? I saw the ad for this and decided that I was too busy doing other things over the next 18 months or so. And I had applied to become a ‘Games Maker’, but nothing has come of that, so far. Do let us all know where to find any stories you post. There will be huge scope for stories from athletes to the youngest spectator. I was hoping to get tickets, but the price and method of buying them put me off, so despite saying I would get involved it’s all fallen by the wayside so far. Still, there’s always TV and hopefully there will be good coverage.
Well done. I hope you enjoy the experience. It will look good on your CV, too.
Best wishes
Rebecca
